Dmytro Ternovyi wins two highest awards at the Literary Contest “Coronation of the Word-2021”
“Hamlet. Show” – a play by Dmytro Ternovyi, playwright and co-founder of the Theatre na Zhukah (Kharkiv, Ukraine) – wins No. 1 award at this year’s contest “Coronation of the Word” in the “Plays” category.
Another piece by the playwright from Kharkiv – libretto to rock opera “Taras Bulba” – wins special award as the best opera libretto.
The award ceremony took place on 29 August within framework of Kyiv Book Art Fest.
The award from “Coronation of the Word” is the seventh victory of Dmytro Ternovyi at a number of drama contests (including international).
“Hamlet. Show, or Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Alive” – a political detective that carries the events from the Shakespeare tragedy over to the world of modern media and implants them into the context of recognizable Ukrainian realities”. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern turn into the hosts of a popular TV show “Lie detector” who conduct journalistic investigations live and, specifically, unravel the mysterious disappearance of Prince Hamlet after a series of high-profile crimes that shook the entire country. King Claudius, Queen Gertrude and Laertes are guests of the studio. The events occurring during the show get out of control, same as the situation in the country that lives in anticipation of the war.
Founded 21 years ago, the international literary contest “Coronation of the Word” is the most prestigious competition that discovered over 1,000 new names in the realm of novels, screenplays, plays, song lyrics and works for children. The main goal of the contest is to support the modern Ukrainian culture, promoting the search for new authors, publishing the best works, stimulating and supporting the contemporary literary process in cinema and theatre, thereby fostering the modern and competitive creative product.
